Beautiful Feet
May 28th, 2007 — Feet
It’s summer and sandals are being pulled out of the closets, from under the bed, and off the store shelves. At the same time, feet are getting attention and their own beauty routine.
A simple home pedicure is a good place to start when beautifying feet.
- Trim toe nails straight across. Take a file to smooth the nail and gently round the edges.
- Use cuticle oil and a strong foot cream. Massage it in. Pay special attention to rough heels and balls of feet.
- With rolled up paper, toe spacer, or a few cotton balls, make room between each toe.
- Use nail polish remover to remove any oil or cream that may interfere with polish adhering to nails.
- Apply a protective base coat and 2-3 coats of nail polish.
Nail polish is a part of most beautiful foot routines.
Be creative with nail polish. Summer is a perfect time for corals and berries because they are the same colors of summer fruits. White will complete a beautiful white outfit with white sandals. Women with darker skin may choose an opaque white. Try a “French manicure” painted style with two shades of pink. Add crystals and use metallic colors to reflect the summer sun.
Nail polish hints:
- When a favorite nail polish thickens up, instead of throwing it away, add a few drops of nail polish thinner
- If nail polish ends up on skin instead of nails, a cotton swab dipped in nail polish remover will easily fix mistakes (gently squeeze off excess remover)
- Two thin coats will dry faster and may be more lasting than a single thick coat.
- A base coat protect your nail and a top coat protect your polish.
Pamper your feet and they will reward you by looking beautiful though out the summer months.
The Beauty of Sunglasses
May 26th, 2007 — Eyes
Sunglasses are a necessity to reduce wrinkles and lines around eyes. When choosing glasses consider the shape of your face, your hair/skin color, and your personality.
- Square face: choose a curvy sunglass style that will soften the lines
- Round face: maximize fullness with lively colors and interesting patterns
- Oval face: wear any color, shape, or pattern you choose
- Heart-shaped face: wear a sunglass frame that is wider at the bottom to balance out forehead width
- Long face-large sunglasses with thick frames will create a more oval appearance
Do a little research to find out what colors work best with your skin tone and your hair color.
When choosing sunglasses, choose ones that fit your personality.
- Quiet and reserved: choose plain and simple sunglasses with thin neutral or invisible frames in basic colors
- Outgoing and active: choose sport glasses with heavy frames. Bold, bright, and printed frames will work for you
- Some where in between: choose sunglasses that are basic colors in a bold frame or small glasses with a print
When choosing glasses, try them on, look in the mirror, and then walk around the store. Come back and put them on again. If you still love them, and how they look on you, buy the sunglasses.
Tools for Beauty
May 21st, 2007 — General Beauty, Women
It is fun to have the mini suite cases full of makeup tools. This is not always practical to carry around and choosing a few beauty tools for a small will assure you always look fresh. For a woman who is the practical low maintenance type, you can achieve beauty with just a few tools. For both types of women, these tools are essentials:
- Eyelash curler-this little marvel will help your eyes look instantly alive. Keep it clean so that lashes don’t get stuck on sticky old mascara and get plucked out. Hold the curler at the edge of your lash line and squeeze gently. The idea is to curl the eyelashes without damaging them.
- Slant-tip tweezers-use to keep on top of stray eyebrow hairs. Maintained eyebrows maintain a polished look. Grab hair at root and pull in the direction of growth to minimize discomfort.
- Cotton swabs-these little wonders are essential because they can do several jobs. Cotton swabs can apply, blend, blur edges, and clean-up stray makeup.
- Big powder brush-to dust face with a a translucent powder to give a finishing look. It will give a more natural look than using a traditional powder puff.
- Concealer brush-will cover dark spots and blend imperfections away without a heavy mask appearance. Let your well cared for skin show.
Save the big beauty toolbox for special occasions and when you have lots of time to devote to your beauty routine. For the quick trip to the store or for the woman who prefers to keep it simple, just a few beauty tools are needed to look fresh and finished quickly anytime you want.
Leg Care
Slit skirts, shorts, and bathing suites expose legs that have been hidden all winter under layers of warm clothing.
- Walking is the easiest way to get legs toned. Fast walking with long steps will firm up legs. Have good posture during walks to get the maximum results from walking.
- For legs that just don’t look good, but are soft to the touch, use moisturizing body wash in the shower to start out. For smooth legs, use shaving cream with a sharp razor. Shaving has the added benefit of exfoliating. A loofah will slough off dead skin so that fresh, new cells are exposed on your legs.
- An emollient cream messaged into slightly damp skin will give that silky feel.
- Get a professional pedicure or do one yourself at home. Feet shouldn’t detract from legs, they should make the legs look good.
- Some people have tried the cellulite reducing creams. Like most products it will take time before results are seen.
Don’t set unrealistic goal for yourself. Unless you get enhanced surgically or digitally, you are not going to look like the models in the magazines or on commercials. Remember you don’t need to! Appreciate your own unique qualities.
