Shaving Legs

The most popular method of removing leg hair is by shaving. While this may seem like a simple task, you should know that there is much more to shaving than just a razor, a little bit of soap, and some water. Being informed about shaving is important to prevent cuts, razor rash, and ingrown hair while also getting the closest shave possible. Here are some tips to help you get the “perfect” shave:

  • Invest in a good razor instead of a disposable one. You will then get a closer shave without the nicks.
  • Make sure to change your blades frequently. Dull blades will give you razor rash, nicks, and ingrown hair.
  • Do not shave in the morning when you first wake up as your skin is puffier and so your stubble is not as visible. You need to wait at least 30 minutes after you get up.
  • If you take a bath, make sure that you shave within the first 10 minutes of getting into the tub.
  • Use a body scrub or a loofah to ex foliate your legs. This will get rid of the dead skin cells that will clog up your razor while giving you soft, smooth skin.
  • Do not apply shaving lotion to dry skin. Wet your legs for at least 2 minutes first so that your hair will stand up and you will get a closer shave. The shaving lotion should then sit there for a few minutes to hydrate your skin even more.
  • Never use plain soap to shave with as it will dry your skin out and the razor will not glide smoothly so you will get a few cuts and maybe even a rash.

Smooth shaved legs look more beautiful.

Leg Care

Leg care goes beyond beauty and can be a reflection of health. Ways to have beautiful legs:

  • Have a physical check up. Cardiovascular disease and kidney disease can effect leg appearance.
  • Message legs with a refreshing lotion or cream.
  • Exercise legs to keep tone and increase circulation
  • Fight spider veins and varicose veins by maintaining proper weight
  • After a strenuous day on your feet, raise legs above heart level to prevent pooling of blood in legs and aid in circulation
  • Alternate low leg impact activities (swimming, biking) with high leg impact activities (running)
  • In severe cases of varicose veins, research and choose medical treatments
  • Use anti-cellulite creams for temporary reduction of cellulite dimples
  • Avoid using dull razors when shaving
  • Choose triple blade razors with moisture strip
  • Use shaving creams or gels

No matter what you do, your legs will never look perfect like the digitally corrected photos and and the actresses you may watch. Have reasonable expectations of how much what you do will change your legs. Be easy on yourself while doing things that will make a difference in leg beauty.

Avoid medical intervention whenever possible, accepting the uniqueness of your legs.

Leg Care

Slit skirts, shorts, and bathing suites expose legs that have been hidden all winter under layers of warm clothing.

  • Walking is the easiest way to get legs toned. Fast walking with long steps will firm up legs. Have good posture during walks to get the maximum results from walking.
  • For legs that just don’t look good, but are soft to the touch, use moisturizing body wash in the shower to start out. For smooth legs, use shaving cream with a sharp razor. Shaving has the added benefit of exfoliating. A loofah will slough off dead skin so that fresh, new cells are exposed on your legs.
  • An emollient cream messaged into slightly damp skin will give that silky feel.
  • Get a professional pedicure or do one yourself at home. Feet shouldn’t detract from legs, they should make the legs look good.
  • Some people have tried the cellulite reducing creams. Like most products it will take time before results are seen.

Don’t set unrealistic goal for yourself. Unless you get enhanced surgically or digitally, you are not going to look like the models in the magazines or on commercials. Remember you don’t need to! Appreciate your own unique qualities.
