School Time Beauty

After a fun summer of minimal make-up, bathing suits, ponytails, and casual clothes, it’s now time to think about changing gears as school starts.

For some, fashion isn’t an issue due to the increasing number of schools that have adopted school uniforms. When purchasing school clothes, it is suggested to  choose 2-3 tops per bottom. Your tops will be more noticed than your jeans. Even with school uniforms, you can probably wear the bottoms 2x, tops should be worn once so that deodorant and cologne doesn’t set into the fabric. Rotating clothes will keep them new looking longer. Keep one of the uniform tops aside for times when a “good” top may be needed. You will be glad you did at the end of the year.
It’s time to brush out the sand from the beach and get hair styled. Choose an easy and simple style that will allow you a few extra moments in bed instead of in front of the mirror. Take time to deep condition and then start a healthy hair routine to maintain beautiful hair.

Have a morning make up routine that is the same everyday. It will make getting back into the school routine easier if you can get up and out the door quickly in the morning. Save the fancy stuff for the weekends and special after school activities.

Easy to care for hair, an esy and quick make routine, and clean fashionable clothes will make everyone forget up the summer style you had.

Humidity and Heat

During the summer, the heat and humidity can make keeping beautiful challenging.

One of the first things to do in the summer is protect your makeup from melt down before you apply it. Here are some hints:

  • Store lipstick and other heat sensitive makeup in refrigerator
  • Don’t leave purse with makeup in the car
  • Remove any “backup” makeup from glove box or other storage place in car
  • Put makeup in a small cooler with a blue ice pack when traveling long distances

Hair is exposed to the sunrays, heat, and swimming pool chemicals during the summer. Deep conditioning should be done at least once a week. Cover hair with a scarf or hat to protect it from sun damage. After swimming immediately, rinse hair. Wash and condition hair as soon as possible after leaving the pool. To reduce frizzyiness use a no frizz hair serum.
Skin should be protected from the sun’s skin damaging rays. The sun is the leading cause of wrinkles and skin aging. Wear sunscreen at all times, especially on the face. Apply moisturizers regularly. Wearing sunglasses will prevent wrinkles from squinting. Cover exposed skin with light airy material.

Makeup should be minimal during summer activities. Choose waterproof makeup that will withstand sweating. Brush on shimmery powder instead of heavy liquid foundation. Powder bronzer will help absorb excessive moisture when the humidity is high.

Enjoy the carefree days of the summer and keep makeup and hairstyles simple during hot and humid weather.

Memorable Eyes

They say the eyes are the gateway to the soul. Memorable eyes make for a memorable gateway to a beautiful soul. Inner beauty should never be neglected, but outer beauty shouldn’t be neglected because it can draw others inward.

Your eyes can tell much about you. To have what they reveal be positive, the following can add to having beautiful memorable eyes:

  • Apply eye shadow with an eyeliner brush. Brush on about three layers of shadow just above the top lash lines. On the  outer corners, come up slightly. Blend the eyeshadow into your creases and onto your brow bones.
  • Define eyelid crease. Focus on natural crease, not the wrinkles. Apply eye shadow that is slightly darker than eye shadow on the lid onto the crease.
  • Open up the eyes. Using an eye shadow color that is light, apply a dab to the inner part of the eyelid and blend into the color on the eyelid. Take a light color and apply a thin line under eyebrow line. Blend in.
  • Choose a look. For a softer more natural look, light colors that match skin tone and hair color. For a dramatic look, darker or brighter colors should be used.

All eyes can be more beautiful with the right makeup application.

Beautiful Hands and Health Care Workers

Health-care workers’ hands are frequent washed and will often become dry and cracked. This can increase their risk of infection when exposed to infectious material in the work place. This can effect the beauty of their hands.

Health-care workers can’t just grab any moisturizer to provide relief from the effects of frequent hand washing and exposure to disinfectants. Some moisturizers aren’t compatible and will reduce the effectiveness of some infection barriers like latex gloves.

The following conditions can be managed with the use of proper moisturizers

  • Dry, flaky skin
  • Crusty bumps
  • Redness
  • Pain
  • Itching
  • Localized inflammation

Only moisturizers that are approved by the Infection Control Department can be used by health care workers Using the wrong moisturizer can put a health-care worker at risk if the moisturizer could compromise the integrity of the gloves used for protection from bodily fluids.

Glove liners may help to protect severely irritated hands,  damaged hands from further irritation from the gloves until healing is finished. It will also provide a barrier if the gloves are the source of irritation.

When not at work, extra hand care that includes regular moisturizing, will help keep health care workers’ hands beautiful.
