Perfumes can be a mixture of any number of different fragrances. However the overall fragrant quality of a particular perfume can fall in one of five basic scent categories.
Citrus Scents
These scents are very fresh. Using the ingredients in oranges, lemons, limes and other citrus fruits, these invigorating fragrances give you a burst of energy. Citrus can be used in everything from perfume to body wash.
Earth Scents
These are the musk and wood fragrances. Though these oftentimes used in men’s cologne, they are also the undertones for many women’s perfumes as well. Earth scents include musk, rosewood, sandalwood and other woodsy aromas.
Floral Scents
These feminine fragrances feature the scent of flowers. Rose, jasmine, lavender and lilac are all common floral scents. Bath and body products, as well as perfumes, powders and oils all come in floral scents. Most floral scents are light and airy.
Green Scents
Using ingredients from nature such a eucalyptus and chamomile, these fragrances are good for relaxation because of their calming influence. Therefore, green scents are a good choice for bath products, including soaps, bubble baths and bath salts. Both men and women enjoy these scents.
Spicy Scents
These scents are oftentimes associated with the holidays and cooking, as well as fragrances. Spicy scents include cinnamon, ginger, frankincense and myrrh.
