Nicole Miller Frenzy

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

Designer Nicole Miller’s newest scent, Frenzy is sweet floral that isn’t too heavy or flowery.

“I don’t like most perfumes,” said the designer from her Seventh Avenue showroom. “I find them too florally or too old. My clothes don’t age people so I wanted that same kind of fragrance that was young and modern.”

Featuring sorbet and orange top notes, a heart of yellow gardenia, ylang ylang and orange flower, and earthy base of black patchouli, oakmoss, white cedarwood and amber. This scent is a new delight.

According to WWD, “Frenzy will be available in two eau de parfum sizes — a 1.7 oz. for $65 and a 3.4 oz. for $95 — as well as a 6.7-oz. souffl?® shower cream for $35, a 6.7 oz. body lotion for $45 and the same size body cream for $60.”

Nicole Miller is one of the many fashion designers who also crosses over into the fragrance game. From Alexander McQueen’s My Queen to Vera Wang’s fragrance line, fashion gurus have met with varying success in the perfume industry. But you can’t knock them for trying. As successful designers build their empires, they tend to dabble in everything from clothing to housewares.

Akon Set to Launch Fragrance

Friday, May 15th, 2009

Music artist Akon is another in the long list of celebrities jumping on the fragrance bandwagon. Akon will have not just one but two scents released in the fall

Akon has reported started a new company – Konvict Cosmetics – which created both of the fragrances. The two scents are geared toward two different demographics. Konvicted (which is also the name of his 2006 album) is a youthful scent targeting the younger population, while Aliaune (which is Akon’s real first name) is aimed at an older crowd.

Similar to the fragrances, in 2007, Akon launched a clothing line — Konvict Clothing, which features urban streetwear, as well as Aliaune — a more high-end fashion line.

Akon’s birth name is Aliaune Damala Bouga Time Puru Nacka Lu Lu Lu Badara Akon Thiam.

Other music artists have been in the fragrance game for a while, including Usher, P.Diddy and Mariah Carey, among others. More recently, Nelly, Rihanna and Kanye West have announced upcoming fragrances as well.
