How to Keep Your Skin Looking Healthy

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

Though we usually talk about perfume here, every once in a while we also talk about other beauty tips. Today, we will discuss skincare.

Keeping your skin looking healthy is one of the most challenging aspects of beauty as you age. Without the proper care, your skin can age prematurely and lose a lot of its vivacity seemingly overnight.

Skin Looking Healthy

However, the good news is that there are preventative measures you can take to keep your skin in tiptop condition. As simple as it may seem, the first place to start is to make sure you are getting enough sleep. The rejuvenation process our bodies undertake happens while we are asleep, which is vitally important for our skin.

The second thing you should be sure to do is drink enough water. Studies show that a large percentage of people around the world don’t drink enough liquids on a daily basis. The best drink for your skin is water. If you drink at least eight glasses of water a day, you can give your body the fuel it needs to keep your skin healthy. You will be hydrating your skin from the inside out.

Exercising is another way to keep your skin looking healthy. By exercising, you can help your body release any toxins that may have built up and get the blood flowing throughout your body.

Next, be sure to protect your skin from the sun. The sun is your skin’s biggest enemy. Too much exposure to the sun can cripple your skin, which is why you should always wear sunscreen when you are planning to be in the sun for an extended period of time.

Last but not least, you should actively take care of your skin. Exfoliating your skin every couple months will help remove dead skin cells. Additionally, applying moisturizer religiously can do wonders in terms of helping your skin keeps its natural elasticity and suppleness.

Wedding Day Makeup

Summer is a popular time for weddings. If you are getting married this summer, you will undoubtedly want you makeup and skin to look picture perfect. In this video, Brides Magazine Beauty Editor Alice Guillemet goes to Chanel to get some fabulous tips on wedding day makeup.

Bridget Scarramuzza, Senior Makeup Training Manager at Chanel stresses the importance of exfoiliating and hydrating your skin before apply your foundation. She explains that it’s best to use a matte foundation for less shine and more coverage, if necessary.

You also should not overapply concealer because it reflects light and will create a white look in photographs. After your foundation base and concealer, lightly dust your face with a loose powder. Don’t apply too much or it will become cakey. Be sure to carry a compact of pressed powder with you for touch-ups.

Some brides like to use metallic shadows on their eyes. However Bridget recommends using light, matte colors on the browbone and shiny shadows only on the lower lid. Don’t forget your waterproof mascara!

It’s suggested that you got to a department store cosmetic counter for recommendations on your lip color. Look for a light lipstick. As you should keep the emphasis on your eyes or your lips but not both.

Use lip liner to line your lips, then fill in the lips with the liner to create a base for your lipstick. Apply your lipstick using a brush.

Bridget’s also offers these other terrific wedding makeup tips:

Go very light on the blusher and use it higher on your cheekbone rather than on the apples of your cheeks.

Don’t wear lip gloss if you are wearing a veil as it may get messed up.

Practice your makeup application 2-3 times before your wedding day. Don’t try new products or a new look for the first time on your wedding day.

Get Your Shine On With Lip Gloss

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

Woman Applying Lip GlossMost of the time, we talk about perfume here, but oftentimes we discuss makeup and other beauty products. Today, let’s talk about how to get your shine on!

To add a little shine to your makeup routine, top your lipstick with a gloss. It’s a great way to take your daytime look and bring it into the evening.

Many forms of lip gloss exist – wands, pots, tubs and sticks. You should pick a lip gloss that adds shine but doesn’t get sticky.

And don’t use too much! It will end up making your lip color slide off your mouth.

To get your lipstick and gloss looking its best, start out by lining your lips with a lip liner that’s similar to your natural lip color. Then fill in your lips with your favorite lipstick. Add just a dab of lip gloss to your bottom lip in the center. Then you just need to smack your lips to distribute the shine.

Some of my favorite lip glosses include:

M?ÀA?ÀC Pro Longwear Gloss Coat
From M?ÀA?ÀC Cosmetics this lip gloss is shiny and lasts a long time. It comes in clear and some pearly shades like Mirror, Pearlizer and Crystalizer. You can grab it online or at your local M?ÀA?ÀC retailer.

Estee Lauder Pure Color Gloss
I am a big fan of Estee Lauder perfume and I love their cosmetics too. This colorful gloss comes in lots of fun shades, giving you shine and a little boost of color. My favorite is subtle Rhubarb. But you can choose everything from Clear to bright Cranberry.

NARS Lip Lacquer
This super shiny lip gloss from NARS comes in a pot. You can apply it with a brush or with your finger tip. I like to wear this on top of lipstick, but it has enough color and shine to wear it on its own. Choose from 16 fabulous shades.
