The perfume you wear every day, probably retains it’s scent until it’s gone. The expensive perfume that you wear on special occasions might not smell the same as when you first purchased it. With a little extra care, you can keep fragrances stable, no matter how often you wear a perfume.
Once perfume becomes old, there isn’t much you can do about it. Occasionally carefully cleaning the top with alcohol (be careful not to get any inside the bottle) and allowing the top to air dry helps. Old perfume than has changed scents can be used in the following ways:
- Add to potpourri
- Put on a cotton ball and put in a drawer
- Add to inexpensive lotion
- Mix in hair shampoo and/or conditioner
To avoid the change of scent of any perfume, avoid the main scent destroying factors, heat and air. The following will allow you to maintain the scent of your favorite perfumes:
- Purchase perfume in spray bottles. It reduces the amount of air that gets into the bottle.
- Store away from light. It can cause perfume to becomeĀ heated, especially sunlight.
- Keep in a dark bag or make-up case
- Don’t keep perfume in bathroom. The heat and humidity isn’t good for perfume.
- During hot summer months keep perfume in refrigerator if house temperatures rise.
It takes a little extra care, but it’s worth it for both everyday perfumes and expensive special occasion perfumes, so that they maintain the scent they had at purchase.
